Is America Destined to be Islamic?

I know that title sounds somewhat unbelievable, but this site is called Beyond the Cusp, so it fits nicely. I bet there are some who have asked this very question and probably reached some less than inspiring answers. The truth is it all depends upon whether the forces of Islam are able to be patient or if they try to rush to action to force this result. Many have pointed to the rising number and percentage of the American populace that has turned to Islam. By the same token, we can also look at the increase of Hispanic citizens and ask if America might become a Hispanic country. Truth be told, it is possible that both of these events may be in our future, first Hispanic then Islamic. Of course neither result is written in stone. So, what does the future hold for the nature of American society?

As far as America becoming Hispanic, that would not be such a bad thing as most Hispanics would retain our style of life and basic Constitutional society as a rule of law rather than the rule of man. I can foresee an America that is comprised of five near equal parts that share a common future. There would be Caucasians, Hispanics, Blacks, Asians, and those of mixed heritage. I would even be willing to bet that the largest group would be those of mixed heritage, which would make coexistence between the rest more likely. But outside of race we also have the religious demographic. What effect would this have on the American future?

Currently there is a mix of religions in America that include among them Catholics, Christians, Protestants, Jews, Muslims, Atheists, Agnostics, Buddhists, Hindus, Shinto’s, a variety of native American religions, and probably more than I could ever list here. Our Constitutional right to worship, or not worship, as we please allows all of these varied religions to have the possibility to live together in harmony. There are those who claim and show some proof that at least one of these religious groups whose extreme fringe is pushing for dominance. There are also the extreme Secularists who are pressing hard for the eradication of any public signs of religion. Considering all things, I doubt that the Secularists will ever succeed in removing all outward signs of religion in our society, though they will make more than sufficient noise in their efforts. Plain and simple, America came into being due to religious persecutions in Europe and the majority of Americans are never ever going to give away their G-d given right to hold and practice whatever religion they choose. But what of the one religion that is rumored to have as one of its tenets the spread of their faith by whatever means necessary becoming the dominant or only recognized religion?

Needless to say, there has been a cacophony of opposing rants on the future of Islam and America. We have extremes from President Bush’s repeated statement that, “Islam is a religion of peace” to the quote from Omar M. Ahmad, founder of CAIR, who said, “Islam isn't in America to be equal to any other faith, but to become dominant. The Koran, the Muslim book of scripture, should be the highest authority in America, and Islam the only accepted religion on Earth.” With this disparity of views one must contemplate if either extreme is correct or, if not, then where between these stark choices is the truth. Personally, I hold out hope that President Bush proves correct in the end, but I too have my doubts. The irony of this whole question is that the followers of Islam hold the answer to this question solely in their control. It will be the actions and tactics employed by the followers of Islam that will ultimately decide the fate of America and her future.

If Muslims decide to passively approach the question of their supremacy rather than taking a more aggressive or violent approach, then they stand a strong likelihood that through numbers alone they will control the American destiny and agenda. This may take many generations and does not come with any guarantees, but the current demographic trends favor their becoming the majority religion in America. This begs the question of whether or not this will suffice. Are the Muslims dead set on Islamic rule by a religious government under Sharia Law or rather choosing to recognize our Constitution and all the history and legacy attached therein? This is the vital and most important of questions. If they allow America to continue under her Constitution and allow those freedoms that are the American heritage, then they will have their influence and all can live in peace, possibly even harmony. But what if they decide that only Sharia Law and Islamic governance is the only acceptable result?

This is where the normal acquiescence of the American public becomes something very different. Ask Japanese Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto what comes of awakening the American masses to which he stated, "I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve." The followers of the current violence perpetrated by those we refer to as Muslim extremists got a small taste of this American giant when they stabbed at us on our own soil in horrific fasion on September 11, 2001. The immediate ramifications of that attack was felt hard and fast in Afghanistan and is still being felt both in Afghanistan and Iraq today. Time will tell, but I do not think all the ramifications from 9/11 have come to fruition. Another attack of near or greater proportions upon the American Public will make any future for Islam in America quite precarious. If the followers of Islam follow a similar path as they have in Lebanon they will face an enraged public unlike anything they have witnessed since the Crusades. The American public can be galvanized, and once galvanized there is no force known on Earth that can stand against them. This is the future result if once Muslims reach critical numbers and decide that America is there for their taking. Most Americans get rather testy if their freedom, independence, rights, and way of life is threatened. America may appear for the most part as being passive, but that is only because America is still asleep. Believe me, you do not desire waking this sleeping giant.
